Any De-Googled Android projects that are forked from old Android?

Hi. Recent Android is full of bugs and redundant features and I can barely use it. I used to love old Android versions that came out decade ago (like ver 4-8) and I was wondering if there are any community-based project that are designed to resuscitate the those good old versions. Do you happen to know any of those or am I asking too much? I can totally bare if I can't use latest apps. Just an open-source security patch would even fulfill my need. Thanks in advance!!

Add Ratings and Reviews for Apps on F-Droid

i don't know about y'all, but I've always wished that F-Droid would add the Rating and Review options under the apps so that users can express their usage experiences and leave their ratings, allowing new users to get a sense of what to expect when it comes to downloading apps.

this is the one feature I've always looked forward to seeing on F-Droid.

if F-Droid has its own point on this, I'd be happy to listen to that POV.

Ive been de-googling for a little while now. Ive noticed a lot of people criticizing Proton's actions, such as expanding beyond email and concerns about metadata and its services not being as private as they advertise. For more context i use their proton mail, their cloud storage and their autheticator. Is Proton really worth using? ive basically switched all my gmail linked accounts to Proton mail ones and it would be quite annoying having to switch them again to something like Tuta mail. Is Proton worth it or do i switch, again?

Hello there. A the tittle says i just bought a Pixel 8 as my old phone died. I've been looking to degoogle lately and this is my real chance now. Im a total noob in this matters but for sure I want to take control of my phone and information. Im not sure Im going to be able to go for Lienage or Graphene OS as i have bank apps that dont work with these OS's (i've checked the lists). Also my main email account is still gmail. I wonder if there is any chance to degoogle keeping google android on the phone but with services and all that stuff disabled. As far as I understand, using foss apps but kepping google service 100% activated doesn't make sense right? So i really need to understand the steps I should take to reduce google activity on my phone. Please help me taking this step. I promise you and my self to keep degoogling as much as I can.

Anyone interested in microG support and privacy Revanced patches?

So, i found out that i can uninstall all the Google apps, including Google Play Services from my phone and that it still runs fine, but it doesn't work well because a few apps i used still depended on Google Play Services to send notifications (aka FCM). I tried making a patch for ProtonMail since i personally needed it working and it worked, so i wanna expand it since that saved me some battery and probably privacy now that it's gone (you probably won't have 100% privacy on a average stock samsung phone, but who knows), but honestly for personal use it could end up *not* being worth it, that depends.

With recent ways of reverse-engineering these apps, new possibilities exist for privacy, atleast for now. And i wanna try the ideas i have in mind, microG was my first one, i wanna hear from you, is it really something worthy of spending my time with?

Before you ask why im doing that when FOSS alternatives exist:

Wanting or not, some apps for now can't be replaced
i noticed that in my case where i uninstalled play services via ADB, sometimes it becomes almost impossible to use my phone regularly if play services remain uninstalled. I won't receive notifications from anywhere. A work profile would solve that if i just wanted to "isolate" the apps, but honestly it would break the entire point of ""privacy"" for me.

What i have in mind is reverse-engineering different apps and patching them, for microG support, and possibly privacy patches if i can get myself to do that, like disabling telemetry and other measures. That could be useful for the folks who use Custom ROMs too

And yeah, it might just be my night thoughts, who knows if people will trow tomatoes at me for that
